MSc Student
I am a Master of Science Student in the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies program under the supervision of Dr. Eduardo Martins. My research examines the optimal temperature and dissolved-oxygen levels for Nechako River Chinook eggs and fry, and the consequences of deviations from optimal. My experiment will incubate Chinook salmon eggs and fry in a lab setting through a range of temperature and dissolved-oxygen conditions, and measure the effects on development, survival, and size at emergence. These results will inform predictive models to predict emergence timing, as well as mortality risk, developmental performance, and among-family variation. The results will be used to inform water release strategies at NeToo, a proposed hydropower and cold-water release facility on the Nechako River. This project is funded through the Nechako Environmental Fund (NEEF).
